A Key Moment for Villages

COVID-19 has proven to be a tough time for all.  Given the circumstances, Aging 2.0, the largest global innovation platform focused on aging, has launched a Global Innovation Search to find the best solutions to help older adults in their homes.

Helpful Village has been recognized as a top-10 worldwide innovator. We are thrilled to be highlighted in this illustrious selection, but we believe this is a recognition of the Villages that are using our technology to operate in a modern way.

This pandemic may have disrupted Village operations, but in a world where many traditional resources are no longer available, we believe this is a vital moment for Villages to be proud of their ability to help Older Adults in their homes.

We hope this contest will help raise awareness for all of the great work that Villages have done, while we will keep working hard to help Villages overcome current challenges.

Innovators around the world are coming up with great ideas to help with Social Isolation among Older Adults. Below is a list of the top-10 finalists of the international Aging 2.0 contest:

• Blissen is a one-stop shop for small business owners and entrepreneurs over 50 to find guidance and community support.

• Discover Live is the expert in providing real-time, virtual travel experiences to seniors, using live video streaming technology.

• Eu Vô is the first Brazilian transportation platform that connects trained drivers with older adults.

• Famileo is a cross-generational communication solution for families and their older relatives who do not use modern means of communication.

• Helpful Village offers a customizable software in which communities of older adults can volunteer to help each other and request services. Our main goal is to provide a strong social connection for isolated adults along with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

• ISGAME teaches older adults to play and develop video games to improve mental and physical health. 

• Silvernest is a unique, online roommate matching service designed to pair aging homeowners with qualified housemates based on detailed behavioral profiles and selected preferences.

• Soundmind is the easiest way for older adults to video chat. Devices are pre-configured when shipped.

• TeleVisit.org provides technology, facilitator training and content to run virtual group sessions to older adults in their own homes using ordinary phones or tablets that require no learning.

• Tombot makes robotic animals for seniors facing social isolation or dementia.

While we find these ideas compelling, we believe there is nothing quite like the power of human connection and having a community of neighbors that stay together during times like these. A tech-enabled Village is simply the best cure against Social Isolation!
